About the Authors

David Port is a Colorado-based writer and editor whose books include The Caveman’s Pregnancy Companion, Caveman’s Guide to Baby’s First Year and The New Game: A Strategy to Reinvent the American Economy. Born and raised in Connecticut, Port founded his own writing/editing firm, Southpaw Print/Net Communications, in 2000. He is founding editor of the New Parent Guide, a magazine for new dog and cat adopters. An avid snowboarder, camper and baseball fan, Port lives in the Denver area with his wife and two young children. He’s a graduate of Trinity College in Hartford, Conn.

John Ralston manages the dietary program at Gunnison Valley Hospital in Gunnison, Colo., and is co-author of The Caveman’s Pregnancy Companion and Caveman’s Guide to Baby’s First Year. He founded and sold two successful restaurants and worked for five years in the U.S. House of Representatives. J.R. lives with his wife and two young children in Crested Butte, Colo.

Longtime friends Port and Ralston were college classmates and fraternity brothers at Trinity College in Connecticut back in the 80s. In the early 90s they inhabited a stone domicile known as the Bourbon Shack, a Capitol Hill flophouse where they honed their primitive personas. Port and Ralston have since both settled in Colorado.

John’s brother, Brian Ralston, MD, FAAFP, is a family physician with a clinical practice at MacNeal Hospital outside Chicago. He lends his medical expertise and polished caveman sensibilities to The Caveman’s Pregnancy Companion and Caveman’s Guide to Baby’s First Year. Doctor Brian's special areas of interest include sports medicine and computers in medicine. He volunteers as a teaching faculty member at a free medical clinic and works with a group of physicians who travel regularly to Honduras to provide medical care in rural communities. He inhabits a very tall modern stone structure in Chicago.
